The first book in the 1:1 series documents the project of footbridges for the Krkonoše Mountains, which was carried out in cooperation with the Krkonoše National Park Administration in the academic year 2017/2018. The project involved 30 students from 5 studios of the Department of Architectural Design II, FA CTU. The result is a total of five footbridges – the footbridge on the Bear Creek, the footbridge over the Hluboká strouha, the footbridge over the Černá strouha, the footbridge at the Hrnčířské budy, and the footbridge over the Rennerův potok.
The book contains documentation for individual footbridges and several technical texts. The text by Šarka Malošíková introduces the topic of alternative methods of teaching architecture in the form of design-build. A critical analysis of the project is provided by Erik Sommerfeld, who is the director of the design-build program at the Colorado Building Workshop at the University of Colorado Denver. The view from the perspective of the client is complemented by an interview with Luděk Khol from the Krkonoše National Park Administration.
